About Missouri scratchers
Missouri sells Scratchers in price points from $1 to $50, and the Missouri Lottery publishes, for every game, how many prizes it started with and how many are still unclaimed. Those come from molottery.com. Missouri does not publish the odds of each individual prize level — it gives one "average chances" figure per game, which it notes includes free-ticket prizes — so the tier odds here are derived by spreading that figure across the prize table. The two are counted on the same basis: the bottom row of every Missouri prize table is the ticket price itself. The method is on our methodology page.
Missouri is unusually clear about when a game ends, and it is worth knowing because most states are not. It publishes both an End Date, the last day the ticket is sold, and an Expire Date, the last day a prize can be claimed — and the second is always 180 days after the first. Until the lottery sets them, both read "TBD". That is why games appear here as no longer on sale while their prizes are still claimable, with a real deadline attached rather than an estimate.
Where to buy: licensed retailers across Missouri, typically convenience stores, grocery stores and gas stations. Retailers pay single-ticket prizes up to $600. Above that you claim by mail, or in person at Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City or the regional offices in Springfield, St. Louis and Kansas City — all by appointment only. Prizes up to $35,000 are paid the same day; larger ones take about two weeks.
Tax: Missouri withholds 4% state tax and 24% federal on prizes over $5,000. Withholding is not the same as what you finally owe, which depends on your total income for the year. For anything large enough to change your tax bracket, talk to an accountant before you claim.
A word on what these numbers can and cannot do. Scratcher outcomes are fixed when the tickets are printed; nothing you read here changes the ticket in your hand. What the data does tell you is which games currently return more of each dollar to players and which still have their big prizes outstanding.
