Why there is no payout figure for Idaho
Every other state on this site is ranked by current payout: how much of each dollar still in a game comes back as prizes. That figure needs every prize level and how many of each were printed. Idaho publishes how many of each prize were printed, but how many are left only for prizes of $25 and up. So the figure cannot be computed, and an estimate would not be a rough version of the truth — it would be wrong in a direction nobody could see.
What Idaho does publish answers the question most people bring to this page: which games still have their top prizes, and how many. Those counts are shown here as published, every day, with the date the Lottery last updated them. The overall odds on each game are Idaho's own printed figure, not ours. The method is on our methodology page.
About Idaho scratch games
Idaho sells scratch games in price points from $1 to $50, and the Idaho Lottery publishes, on each game's own page at idaholottery.com, its whole prize structure — every level, how many of each were printed and the odds of each — with how many are still unclaimed for every prize of $25 and up. Below $25 the count reads "not available", Idaho's own words. Each page also gives the game's overall odds, its launch date, how many tickets it printed and the percentage of them sold.
That gap at the bottom is why Idaho's pages here carry no payout, expected value or current odds: each needs every level's count of what is left, and the prizes under $25 are most of a game's winning tickets. What Idaho's figures do answer exactly is how much of each game's bigger prizes is still out there, and because it publishes how many were printed, games here are ordered by the share of their top prizes still unclaimed, then by Idaho's overall odds. Tickets printed and the percentage sold are shown as Idaho's own figures and combined with nothing.
A game leaves Idaho's list the day its sales end; its prizes can then be claimed for 180 days, and Idaho lists the last day on its claim page.
Where to buy: licensed Idaho Lottery retailers across the state. Small prizes can be cashed at retailers; larger ones are claimed from the Lottery, and the back of the ticket gives the exact limits.
Tax: Idaho withholds state income tax and 24% federal on prizes over $5,000; the lottery tax calculator has the rates. Withholding is not the same as what you finally owe. For anything large enough to change your tax bracket, talk to an accountant before you claim.
Scratch-game outcomes are fixed when the tickets are printed; nothing you read here changes the ticket in your hand. A top prize still being unclaimed says nothing about your chance of winning it. Play for entertainment, with money you can afford to lose.
