About Oklahoma scratchers

Oklahoma sells Scratchers in price points from $1 to $100, and the Oklahoma Lottery publishes, for every game, how many prizes of each level it started with, how many are still unclaimed, and — unusually — the odds of every individual prize level as well as the overall odds. Those come from oklottery.com. Because Oklahoma prints the odds of each prize level, the numbers on this page are Oklahoma's own rather than estimated; across its games they agree with its own overall odds to within a fifth of a percent. The method is on our methodology page.

One thing about Oklahoma's figures is worth knowing if you read them directly. Each game page also states a total ticket count, and on at least one game that count is exactly double what the game's own prize table and odds describe. Taken at face value it would halve that game's payout. We use the prize-level odds Oklahoma prints, which agree with each other, and the ticket count those odds describe.

Where to buy: licensed retailers across Oklahoma, typically convenience stores, grocery stores and gas stations. Prizes of $600 or less can be claimed at any Oklahoma Lottery retailer. Larger prizes are claimed at the Oklahoma Lottery Winner Center in Oklahoma City, by mail, or by email, with a government-issued photo ID; you must be 18 or older. Scratcher prizes must be claimed within 90 days of the end of the game, and once a game ends its claim deadline appears on its page here.

Tax: lottery prizes are taxable income in Oklahoma (its top income-tax rate is 4.75%), and 24% federal withholding applies to prizes over $5,000. Withholding is not the same as what you finally owe, which depends on your total income for the year. For anything large enough to change your tax bracket, talk to an accountant before you claim.
